Belarus: Company Protests Against Election Fraud, Police Violence Multiply
Workers at some of Belarus’ largest state-owned and private companies started protests on August 13 to demand a vote recount in Belarus’ August 9 presidential election or a new election and the end of police violence against peaceful demonstrators. Their demands follow five days of street protests against suspected fraud in Belarus’ preliminary election results, which gave President Alyaksandr Lukashenka over 80 percent of the vote.
