A Village Divided: The Fight Over Faith In Ukraine

In the Ukrainian village of Vorsivka, a few hours northwest of Kyiv, Ukraine’s debate over its new, independent Orthodox Church has come down to threats and a priest who no longer answers his phone. Parishioners of St. Nicholas have broken with their priest and voted to transfer the sanctuary from the Moscow-based Russian Orthodox Church to the newly formed Ukrainian Orthodox Church – a decision denounced as “a sin” by some, but, by others, as the only possible response to Russia’s territorial ambitions in Ukraine.
