In 1986, few would have ever imagined tourism to the Soviet Union’s ruined Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and nearby residential areas. But, 35 years after the April 26, 1986 blast that ranks as history’s worst nuclear-energy disaster, tens of thousands of visitors from around the world visit the Ukrainian location each year. Current Time correspondent Yulia Zhukova traveled to Chernobyl and the surrounding area to learn more about the site’s magnetic draw even during the coronavirus pandemic.
