Putin's New Governor Fails To Calm Russia's Far East Amid Sustained Protests
Protests in Russia's Far Eastern city of Khabarovsk have continued for more than two weeks, with some 50,000 people on the streets on July 25, according to organizers. The demonstrations began when regional Governor Sergei Furgal was arrested and charged with organizing murders. Last week, President Vladimir Putin fired him and appointed a replacement -- but that has failed to quell the crowds.
