Moscow riot police and regular law enforcement responded with detentions, truncheons, and metal barriers to a July 27, 2019 gathering of voters calling for election officials to register 27 opposition candidates for September 8 elections to the Moscow City Council. Police report 1,074 individuals were detained; a non-governmental watchdog says 1,373.
