Police in Moscow have detained and beaten opposition politicians, along with protesters, at a rally against municipal election officials who’ve refused to register the candidacies of some opposition politicians on July 27. Moscow police say they arrested more than 1,000 people around the unsanctioned rally. Human rights groups have called the police crackdown a “new low” for Russian authorities.
